The procrastination problem is also known as "procrastination"; It is defined as postponing, avoiding or constantly postponing the tasks that need to be trained. The problem of procrastination, which can be explained as doing something else one last time before getting to the head of the work that needs to be done, avoiding the action that should be done deliberately and consciously instead of completing the work, is quite common in society. Instead of taking action, these people postpone their duties by finding excuses and escape routes on their own. As a result, their social relations as well as their work and school life are negatively affected.

In addition to lack of motivation, being a perfectionist, being afraid of failure, setting high standards for oneself, and having unusual expectations about themselves are among the common characteristics of people with procrastination problems. In addition to all these, people who have bad time management and act unplanned tend to postpone the work that needs to be done.
What are the symptoms of procrastination?
People with procrastination problems often postpone the tasks that need to be done or expected to be done. For example, a person who has a lot of time during the day, after determining the time he will do his homework or a project he has to finish, may be hitting another job when the time comes. When the person cannot complete the job at the previously planned time, he plans it again and sets a further hour and delays the work again when the determined time comes. This situation continues until the time needed for the work to be done decreases. In the limited time, they complete the assignment or project by doing it cursory or without going into details. This is also common when starting sports or dieting. Postponing to Monday, the first day of the week, continues in a cycle. This situation, which becomes a habit after a while, reveals chronic procrastination.
How does chronic delay occur?

Chronic procrastination is an important problem in people who constantly postpone and experience stress and distress because of delay. Authoritarian parents are one of the underlying reasons for this situation, which started in childhood. The rules are very strict in this type of family, and following these rules is more important than almost anything else. Perfectionist parents constantly criticize their children from a young age. In addition, the problem of procrastination can be seen in the children of parents who give conditional love and attention. As a result, children learn to read their parents' intentions instead of organizing their own inner world. Children who have to prove themselves constantly have performance concerns. People who strive to be appreciated and accepted at a young age are left with the problem of procrastination in adulthood. Individuals who are unable to stand up during childhood, when they become adults, react to them by not doing the work they should do on time. However, this situation causes anger in people with chronic procrastination. The idea of starting jobs with deadlines is seen as an upsetting act. The state of stress and nervousness, which increases as time runs out, intensifies negative emotions such as anxiety and anger over the person's psychology. People who are not motivated when they intend to do the job postpone their actions and delay their feelings somewhere.

What are the causes of procrastination problem?
If the person starts to postpone every job and this situation interrupts even his daily routine life, he is thought to have Procrastination, in other words, procrastination problem. Among the reasons for the procrastination problem are:

How to deal with the procrastination problem?

Facing fears is one of the first things that people who cannot start any job and who constantly postpone it should do to cope with this situation. It is a good start to tackle the situation that caused things to delay and face it. Turning off distracting objects such as televisions, phones and tablets 10-15 minutes before the scheduled time to do the work, accepting that nothing is perfect in life, striving to manage time well, making schedules and lists. helps the person. The person should determine the productive time periods during the day and stay away from the activities in which time is wasted during these hours. Limiting the use of the Internet and social media also helps get things done on time. Although it may be difficult for people with this disease to focus on the work done within the planned time, rest as much as possible during the determined breaks, and then return to the work done again, the person should challenge himself and reward himself when he completes the job at the right time.
